Okay, so I know I've been a little MIA from the blogging world for a little while...and I'm very sorry for my lack of posting...but, my absense has been for a really good cause.
Listen to me, it sounds like I'm talking about charity work when I'm actually talking about interior design. Perhaps I should rephrase...
I've been very busy with a few projects that I'm bery excited about. One has been some bouquet's for my friends wedding that is coming up, another is a major update to my living room decor, and perhaps the most exciting is the re-design of my mom's sewing room!
I'll be posting about the other projects within the week, but today I wanted to share some details of the complete re-design I've been working on.
Let me start by explaining that this project actually roots back to Mothers Day. You might have noticed that it's not out of my character to give gifts long after their time (last year's birthday gift for my mom was a bit delayed)...but, this time it was planned.
On Mother's Day I informed my mom that I did not get her a gift. Instead, my gift to her was the redesign of her sewing room. You see, my mom is an avid quilter, but her sewing room has become lost, as many creative spaces do. She has been wanting to rework this space in her home to make it more functional and organized so that she can use the space for working on the quilts that she loves.
My parents live three hours away from where I live, so the design phase has been a little challenging. But, between emails back and forth with photos, measurements, etc. this is the general direction we will be heading.
I've told my mom that I am living vicariously through her right now, since it will be quite a long time before I can ever have a space that is this complete in my home. I'm getting there slowly, but it will be extremely fun to see a room go from the "before" to the "after" all within a week of time! As close to HGTV-style as we can get!
So here's the plan...
Now that the design phase is complete we've just been working out some of the final details. I will be taking the week of 7/30 off of work to spend a week on this sewing room makeover. Between now and then I'll be working on a few projects that will be incorporated into the space, and throughout the week of the transformation I'll be posting a few status updates with our progress.
My parents have decided to hire a painter, and and electrician to help out with the project, and as a true DIY'er I'll admit that I'm a little sad about that, but as someone who realizes we will only have a limited amount of time to complete everything, I know I'll be greatful in the long-run.
In fact, most of our time will probably be spent assembling all of the furniture from Ikea...
This is how I spent the 4th of July, and it felt like we bought the whole store! 5 shopping carts total!
I'll be posting more about what we bought and how much everything cost as we get closer to the room's completion...but for now, I want to keep as much of the element of surprise as possible so there's something to look forward to.
I hope you'll check in as we go along. Also, stay tuned this week as I reveal the updates to my very own living room. If you've been following me on Twitter (@happyplacehome)and Instagram, then you've already got the inside scoop!
