O' The Luck!

Well, I'm happy to report I've caught a few more Zzzz's this week, and I'm feeling a bit more energetic.  I consider myself pretty lucky to have amazing readers like you supporting me, and leaving me comments of encouragement when I'm feeling under the weather!  You truly put a smile on my face and I hope I can repay you by continuing to share my crazy adventures.

This weekend is St. Patty's Day weekend...so I thought it might be a good time to do a project I've been wanting to try for quite some time...bottle painting!

I've seen this project floating around Pinterest and I've always thought it would be an easy way to add some decorative accents throughout my home.  So, during the last 50% off sale at Savers I stocked up on glass pieces...

For most of the pieces I paid just $.50, but for the larger pieces the 50% off deal took them down to $.99.  Either way, I found a great grouping without paying more than $1.00 for each piece!

Lucky for me, I already had some green acrylic craft paint on hand, so this project didn't cost any more than the glass pieces themselves.  To get the paint to a consistency that would easily spread around the bottles I added some water and gave it a good stir...

Then I poured the paint into a bottle and taped off the top so I could swish the paint around without worrying about drips...

...well, that didn't really work.  The paint just poured out of the nooks and crannys in the tape...so I resorted to this method:

...I simply rotated the bottle to get the coverage that I needed, but kept the open end over my paint dish.  This just recycled any paint that dripped out, which was a win-win in my opinion!

Unfortunately, my first go with this didn't work out so well.  But lesson learned...don't add too much water to your paint...

After experimenting with a few consistencies, I found that the best consistency for the paint was similar to that of pancake batter, or even glue.  You don't want a consistency of milk!

Here's the difference...

Once I found the right consistency for the paint, this project was a cinch!  Simply pour the paint into the bottle, twirl the bottle around until it's entirely coated, and let it dry.  That's it!  Before you know it, you'll have a cute St. Patty's Day centerpiece like this one...

These are gorgeous!!! For mine I just used the paint straight from the bottle but my paint was new & a little thick but with a lot of patience I swirled the paint around and let it drain. Such a fun project!

I definitely found that I had to thicken up the paint to get the right amount of coverage. It took some patience, but if there's anything I've learned in all of my adventures, it's that patience almost always pays off!
