It's nearly Friday, plus I've got me a three-day-weekend coming up! You know what happens on three-day-weekends don't you??
Crafting happens...and I've got a big project in mind!
Since I've been spending some time brainstorming ideas, I thought I'd share some of the "behind the scenes" action that's been taking place.
A few days ago, my friend from work asked me to help brainstorm some ideas for a gift to give to his other friend that just had a little girl. He knew he wanted it to be something that was inspired by the baby's name, Penny Lane.
Cute name, right?!
The baby's name was inspired by this song, written by John Lennon of the Beatles:
One of the ideas we came up with was subway art. It's suitable for a nursery, yet modern, and it would be something that could work within little Penny's room even as she grew older.
So, tonight I sketched out a few ideas...
Obviously, the first one would be the easiest one to complete...but the second one has more correlation to the song itself.
My friend told me that John Lennon wrote the song while sitting on a park-bench on Penny Lane. He just started writing down what he saw, then put the words to song...and the rest is history.
So, I'll let my friend choose which one he'd like me to make. If he chooses the second one, the finished product is going to look a bit different than the sketch. Basically, I got lazy on my photo-editing here, so picture it with one solid background color, and I'll probably do the shadows/silhouettes in a grey.
Pretty fun, right?!
I have to give a major shout-out to Alison over at House of Hepworths for her recent subway-art project. Her amazing work is what inspired the idea for this project, and she wrote up an awesome tutorial on how to complete the project successfully. Check it out:
She also did the same piece in yellow for one of her readers. Both look amazing!
I'm excited to see which design my friend chooses, but let's put it to a vote...which one would you pick?
