A big shout-out goes to reader, Nichole, for inspiring this week's Tip of the Week!
Nichole was kind enough to share photos of an adorable baby shower she threw for one of her friends, and here's what she had to say:
"I had SO much fun planning and hosting this baby shower for my friend, Kari! The overall theme was inspired by the colors in the baby girl's nursery, infused with the mom-to-be's favorite things.
The picture wall (which is my favorite element) was inspired by the framed hearts that you created for the bridal shower. Each picture has a meaning - photo of the mom and dad when they were kids, giraffes are in baby's nursery, yellow zig zag and 'love' were leftover materials from pillows in baby's room, bee is made from puff paint on canvas (they had a bee theme at their wedding), and baby's name will begin with C.
So many people helped with this event, from food to decorations, it would not have happened without them!"
So many elements of this baby shower added that personal touch to make the event extra-special for the mom-to-be, and that inspired the tip, "make it personal."
For the picture wall, Nichole found inspiration from Kari's favorite things. I personally love the fact that she framed photos of the baby's mom and dad when they were babies! Super cute idea, and it adds such a personal touch!
Not only did Nichole focus on celebrating the new baby, she also celebrated her friendship with the baby's mother. She created art that highlighted another special day for the mom-to-be...her wedding.
To highlight the menu, Nichole refinished this $20.00 frame from Goodwill, and made a beautiful chalkboard. I thought it was a great idea to list the menu on the chalkboard. In fact, now I'm wishing I had done that for the bridal shower I worked on a few months ago (I used my chalkboard near the entrance to greet guests).
I also loved all of the flowers throughout the space. The pink, yellow, and white theme was bright and cheery, just like the mom-to-be.
To top things off, Nichole honed in on the details...
...glassware, not plastic...(you always can tell you're a special guest when the host is willing to do dishes on your behalf!)
...tissue paper poofs...
...pink and yellow punch...
...pink and yellow cupcakes...
...yarn baby, brought by a friend...
...pink and yellow garland, brought by a friend...
... and a yarn wreath (Nichole made this!!)...
Needless to say, the guests were impressed by the event. It looks like everyone had a great time, enjoyed one another's company, and shared some laughs.
...but most importantly, the mom-to-be, Kari, received the VIP treatment on her special day.
That's just what happens when you make it personal!

Thank you, Nichole, for sharing your creativity with us! Sadly, Nichole hasn't converted to blogging, though she obviously would have many followers if she did (I'd be one), but you can follow her on Pinterest at: http://pinterest.com/nicholeot/ (I totally am) to see where she gains some of her inspiration!
I hope she has inspired each of you to tie in that personal touch! This is important not only for event planning, but also in your homes. Find ways to make your spaces have sentimental value. That doesn't mean that you make everything around you sentimental (because if everything is sentimental, nothing is), but rather incorporate things that are meaningful into your surroundings, and you'll enjoy them more.
So now it's your turn...
What are ways you make your space personal? What is the most personalized gift you've ever given, or event you've thrown? What was it about the person/or event that made it so special to you, and made you want to add personal touches? I'm anxious to see how you're already using this tip in your everyday lives!
