Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous

Found this article at Architectural Digest's website that offered a sneak-peek into the homes of the Hollywood Hills.  Some of the interior design styles surprised me when I learned who the homeowners were.  I guess I expected the wall paper to be made of gold and the floors to be covered in diamonds...or something like that.

It was interesting to me just how comfortable these spaces look, reminding me that celebrities are just people who like to live comfortably, just like us.

Here is the living room of Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher:

I love the large walls of windows and the natural light that flows into the space.  It really makes the interior and the exterior spaces blend together and seem larger.  It seems they have a blended style of casual and contemporary.  Take for example the plush, green sofa with casual upholstery and friendly fabrics on the toss pillows, paired next to the leather bench by the window that has a Scandinavian feel.

I do like how their color scheme and material selection really highlights the outdoor elements.  Using greens, browns and other natural looking elements help the space to feel more inviting.

Here is the Sting's living room:

My favorite thing about this space is the boldness in color that was used.  If you were to take out all of the furniture and artwork in this space you would be left with a traditional room.  However, adding bright color and contemporary artwork makes the space feel modern and exciting.

When Jennifer Aniston goes home, she goes here:

I personally think this room looks more like a hotel lobby than a living room because of the architectural elements that were used (sorry Jennifer), but I would be interested to see how it is relevant to the rest of her home.  Sometimes a scheme makes more sense when you can see the entire picture, rather than just a small slice.

I do, however, absolutely love the sofa and the flooring!  I think they add elegance and style to the room and add warmth to the cold background of the stone wall.

Sir Elton John lives like this:

Only one thing needs to be said about this room...CHECK OUT THAT VIEW!!!  My gosh, if I had a view like that I would never leave my house.  In fact, I would never leave that room!  That green chaise over by the window would be my roost!

Lastly, here's the living room of Dennis Quaid:

This one surprised me because of how rustic it felt.  (Again...I was expecting diamonds on the floor.)  But I must say that this room has a certain elegance to it that cannot be denied.  The fabrics and colors are so warm, rich, and inviting, and there isn't one piece that demands attention over another.  Everything seems to blend harmoniously to generate an extremely comfortable feel.

If this was a vacation home, I would be on the next flight out of town!

Well, I think it's pretty fun to see how the rich and famous live, and I find it comforting to know that they do the same things with their homes as we do with ours.  That is, they do their best to create an inviting enviroment where they can feel comfortable, safe, and happy.

If you were a celebrity and could lavishly decorate your home, what would your design style look like?  Would your house be large, in the Hollywood Hills, or would you have a penthouse in another city like New York?  Hey...we can always dream, so dream big!

I agree with all your observations oncelebrities' living rooms. My favorite living room has to be the one of Sir Elton John. I can stay there all day, waiting for the sunrise and enjoying the sunset.
